Warning: Read the Secret Admirer before starting this story. This is technically part four of that story, but it begins a whole new phase of the characters’ relationship so I gave it a new title.
Addison Melborne hadn’t stopped smiling since she had come home. Even getting grounded for two weeks with no computer or phone for being late couldn’t budge the smile on her face. After the scene under the gazebo, she wasn’t sure she’d ever stop smiling, again. Just thinking about the gazebo made the corners of her mouth turn up even more.
Flopping on her back on her bed, she grinned up at the ceiling, letting the scene play again in her mind’s eye. There she was sitting in the gazebo, thinking she was about to lose one friend, maybe two when she broke down and told Bethany how she felt. She was a mess, close to tears. Then Bethany had shown up and blew her mind by producing a single red rose, confessing she was Addison’s secret admirer. She had taken Addison’s hands, looked her in the eyes and made her heart pitter patter in her chest with just a few words.
“I love Bethany,” Addison said, bringing the rose up from her side and inhaling its sweet scent, “and she loves me back.”
She hugged the rose to her chest, grinning like an idiot. She couldn’t help it.
There was a knock on her door, and she got up to open it. She put her rose in her desk drawer on the way to the door. Her mother was standing in the hallway, Addison’s laptop and phone in her hands. She held them out to the teenager, said, “You should have told me you were helping Bethany and her mom. Could have saved yourself the lecture. Here’s your stuff.”
Addison blinked in surprise, then took the computer and phone from her mom before the woman could reconsider. She had no idea what her mother was talking about; she and Bethany had spent the afternoon kissing and holding hands under the gazebo and lost track of time. That was why she was late. She hadn’t helped Bethany or her mother do anything.
It dawned on her that Bethany must have called with a made up story to get her out of trouble. She had to bite back a smile as she said, “You didn’t give me a chance.”
Her mother snorted, said, “I guess I didn’t.”
“I take it Bethany called,” Addison said, grinning.
“Yeah. Made you sound like a saint. I figure she was half full of shit, but I won’t ground you for helping a friend. If you are going to be late, just call next time.”
“Okay,” Addison said.
When her mother was gone, she finally let out the giggle she’d been holding in. Staring at her stuff, she could only shake her head and smile.
She turned on her phone, saw she had a text message from Bethany. Reading it, she burst out laughing, again. It read: Mom says thanks for helping us move stuff around in the attic.
Addison called her, still smiling. Bethany picked up on the second ring, said without preamble, “Saved your bacon, did I?”
“My Hero, saved me from two weeks of mind-numbing boredom,” Addison said, laughing.
“Want to spend the night tomorrow?” Bethany asked, and Addison could hear the playful smile on her face clear as day in her voice.
Grinning, she said, “I’d like that.”
“Well, I have to go. I actually have to move stuff around the attic. Right now, I’m covered from head to toe in dust.”
Laughing, Addison said, “What, with all my help, you should be almost done.”
“Ha ha,” Bethany said, then, “Love you. Bye.”
“Love you, too. See you tomorrow,” Addison said, ending the call.
She left her room and headed downstairs. Her mother was sitting on the couch, watching TV. Addison sat down next to her, and the woman glanced her way. Her mother looked at her for a long second, then nodded.
“You can stay over at Bethany’s, or she can stay here,” her mother said, turning her attention back to the TV, “whichever.”
Laughing, Addison asked, “Am I that predictable?”
“Oh, Kiddo,” her mother said, patting her thigh affectionately, “you have no idea. I’ve had years of practice at reading you.”
“Huh,” Addison said, grinning, “I’ll have to work on my poker face.”
That line drew a look from her mother, and she started laughing and held up her hands in defeat. Her mother looked at her a moment longer with one her patented Mom looks, then turned her attention back to the TV.
“Bethany invited me to sleep over at her place, tomorrow,” Addison said.
Her mother just nodded.
Satisfied, she headed back upstairs. In her room, she opened her desk drawer and retrieved her rose. Flopping on her bed, she held it to her nose, inhaling deep the lovely scent of the flower. Smiling, she couldn’t wait for tomorrow.
————————————
“Hi, Addison. Come on in,” Bethany’s mother said, when she opened the door and smiled at Addison. When Addison stepped inside, the woman called, “Bethany! Addison is here!”
The woman looked at and smiled, said, “You are doing something different with your hair. And a dress! Are you feeling okay, Sweetie?”
Blushing, Addison said, “Just trying something new.”
“Well, you look very nice. You should keep the haircut.”
“Thank you, ma’am.”
“Hi,” Bethany said, coming up behind her mother. She smiled at Addison, and it widened when she noticed the hair and the dress. Her eyes said she knew Addison had dressed up for her. While the compliment from her mother had been nice, seeing that smile made the struggle with the curling iron worthwhile. She had to smile back at the girl.
Remembering Bethany’s mother, she made herself stop smiling like a love-struck fool. She was a love-struck fool, but she didn’t want the woman to know that. She might hesitate to let Addison sleep over tonight if she knew Addison was hopelessly in love with her daughter.
She had been thinking about laying it Bethany’s arms all morning and didn’t want to jeopardize the opportunity.
“We are going downstairs,” Bethany said, grabbing Addison’s hand and pulling her behind her.
“The movie starts at six,” her mother called after them, “we are leaving at five, since it is only showing at the Paradiso, over in Jackson.”
“Alright,” Bethany called over her shoulder.
Bethany led her to the door to the basement. No sooner had they passed through it, did Bethany close the door and press Addison against it. Grinning, she leaned in, her eyes closing. Her lips were just inches from Addison’s, looked so soft and tempting. Unable to resist, Addison kissed the girl, let herself get drawn into a passionate, toe-curling, breath stealing kiss that made her a little weak in the knees. She was glad her back was to the door because she needed the support.
“I missed you,” Bethany said, huskily when they finally had to come up for air.
“You saw me yesterday,” Addison said, smiling warmly at her.
“An eternity,” the girl said.
“Oh God,” Addison said, laughing and rolling her eyes at the corny comment. Still, it made her smile.
Bethany took her hand and led her down the stairs. Looking over her shoulder, Bethany said, “I love the dress, by the way. It looks great on you.”
“Thanks,” Addison said, smiling at her, “I got it when Mom took me shopping, along with a couple of new outfits.”
They sat on Bethany’s bed, and the girl didn’t relinquish Addison’s hand. She didn’t mind, because she liked holding the girl’s hand. She really hadn’t understood what the big deal was about holding hands before Bethany put a note in her lock signed ‘your admirer’ but she has come to like it now. She realized it was symbolic, signifying the union of two hearts.
Bethany brushed her hair behind her ear, something she did when she was nervous. Frowning, Addison wondered what the girl had to be nervous about. The girl saw the frown, took a deep breath and offered Addison a shy smile.
“What is it?” Addison asked.
“I was thinking,” Bethany said, meeting Addison’s eyes, “since we are seeing the movie at the Paradiso and we aren’t likely to run into anyone we know… Maybe we could make this… A date?”
“A date?” Addison parroted, her eyes widening.
“What do you think?” Bethany asked, shyly.
The thought hadn’t even crossed her mind, whether they should see the movie as friends or as a date. She really just wanted to see the film. Enough so that they were going to drive a couple of towns over just to watch it.
Now that the thought was in her head, she couldn’t help but wonder what it would be like to go on a date. Especially with Bethany. She wasn’t even sure exactly what it would mean to go on a date with another girl. Or a boy, if she was being honest. Dating was still a relatively new concept for her, one she was just beginning to think about. She had figured she’d have a couple more years to figure it out.
“I-I don’t know,” she said, her heart racing, “I’ve never been on a date before.”
“Neither have I,” Bethany said, smiling at her.
————————————–
Sitting in the backseat, Addison fidgeted nervously with the hem of her dress. She was looking out the window but not really seeing the passing scenery. Her thoughts were on Bethany and their impending first date. She thought she knew what Bethany had in mind, and the idea both scared and excited her in equal measures.
Ever since she began to suspect she was a little different than the rest of the girls in her class, she had kept her little secret under wraps. The only other person who knew she was a lesbian was sitting in the passenger seat, nodding her head along with the music on the stereo. Now, Bethany was suggesting something a bit more… Open. Exposed. Out.
When she had researched what it meant to be a lesbian, trying to understand her burgeoning feelings for the fairer sex, she had come across the term ‘in the closet’ and knew that was what she was. She hated the hiding but feared what could happen if she came out. She loved her friends and couldn’t bear the thought of alienating herself from them. The kids at her school could be cruel if someone were a little different.
Middle school was hard enough without that on her shoulders.
Still, she’d be lying if she said this date didn’t set her heart to fluttering. The idea of walking hand in hand down the mall with Bethany made her almost dizzy with excitement. It was a longing for something she didn’t even know she wanted. Needed.
She saw the first sign for the mall and knew they were almost there. Her heart started beating a little faster, and she had to blot her palms on her dress nervously. Glancing at Bethany, she wondered if the girl was as nervous as she was. Of the two of them, Bethany was the bolder one. Her little secret admirer stunt proved that.
The car turned into the mall entrance and Bethany’s mother dropped them off at the entrance to the theater. As the girls filed out, the woman leaned across the seat and said,
“I’ll be back at nine to pick you up.”
“Could we stay until ten? It’s a weekend, and the mall doesn’t close until late,” Bethany asked.
Her mother looked like she was about to say no, then changed her mind. Smiling, she said,
“Ten, then. If your butts aren’t in the car by ten-oh-one…”
“Right,” Bethany said, smiling at her mom.
“Have fun,” the woman said, rolling up the windows and driving away.
Bethany watched her until she disappeared, then turned to Addison. With a nervous giggle, she asked, “Are you ready for this?”
Taking a deep breath, Addison held out her hand. Bethany looked at it, then started grinning. She took it, interlaced her fingers in Addison’s. She took a deep breath like Addison had and then they started walking toward the big glass doors that led into the mall proper. They pushed their way inside, pausing just inside the door to look at the milling crowd of people. Bethany’s hand tightened on hers, and she was glad for the comfort it afforded her.
“Come on,” Bethany said.
They walked to the ticket booth. The bored looking teenager behind the glass looked up from her magazine when they stepped up to the window. Setting the magazine aside, she said, “Can I help you?”
Addison told her what movie, fishing in her purse for the money her mother had given her for the film. She passed it to the woman, then accepted her tickets. Addison gave a ticket to Bethany, then offered her hand, again. The teenager saw it, her eyes widening slightly. Then she shrugged and went back to her magazine.
Oddly, the teenager’s indifference put Addison at ease. She smiled at Bethany and motioned at the ticket collector with a tilt of her head.
They browsed the glass case at the concession stand, discussing the merits of Whoppers over Goobers. They finally decided just to split a large tub of buttery popcorn. When it was their turn at the register, the cashier blinked at them. She was probably in her early twenties, with a nose ring in her right nostril and a short, shaggy haircut. Not exactly beautiful, she had a pleasant cuteness that Addison liked.
Noticing the tattoo on the inside of her right wrist, Addison smiled. She had seen the symbol a few times in her research on lesbianism, the two Venus signs linked indicating the union of two girls. The tattoo was stylized and pretty, featured a name on either side of the design. Addison thought one of them was probably the cashier’s name and the other a girlfriend’s, present or past.
The cashier noticed them holding hands and her fake friendly smile turned genuine. With a faint nod of acknowledgment, she said, “Ladies, what can I help you with?”
“Um, can we get a large popcorn and a couple of Cokes?” Bethany asked.
“Sure can,” the cashier said, smiling at her. As she started filling some throwaway cups with ice and soda, she asked, “Date night?”
Blushing, Addison said, “Yeah.”
“First time?” The cashier asked, putting lids on the Cokes. She paused to look at Addison, smiling.
“Yeah,” she said, with a nervous little laugh.
The woman nodded, seemed to understand, “It’s a little scary the first time.”
Addison nodded.
“I remember the first time Tina and I went out as a couple,” the woman said, setting the Cokes on the counter, then turning to the popcorn machine, “I was a paranoid mess.”
“Tina?” Addison asked, recognizing the name from the tattoo on the girl’s arm, “the girl on your arm?”
The cashier smiled at her and nodded, “The love of my life. We’ve been together since our freshman year of high school. Going on seven years.”
“Wow,” Addison said.
Setting the popcorn on the counter, she said, “That will be thirteen-fifty. We are saving up to get married.”
“Congratulations,” Bethany said, passing her some money.
“Thanks,” she said, smiling brightly. She counted out the change but didn’t give it to Bethany right away. Instead, she said, “You two remind me of Tina and me when we first started dating, although I think you two are a little younger than we were.”
Bethany nodded, and the girl gave her her change.
“Have fun, ladies,” the cashier said, giving them a warm smile.
“Thanks,” Addison said, then added, “I hope you have a nice wedding.”
The theater was curiously empty, and they had no problem finding two seats next to each other. They munched on deliciously buttery popcorn and talked about the cashier and her upcoming wedding while they waited for the movie to start. Addison wondered if Tina or the cashier- her name was probably Wendy, the other name on her wrist- would wear a wedding dress. Bethany suggested maybe both of them but thought Wendy would make a cute bride. This led to a discussion about short haircuts for women and Addison found out Bethany would break up with her if she ever got her hair cut like Wendy’s.
Laughing, Addison said, “Would you really break up with me over a haircut?”
“No,” the girl said, grinning, “but I love your hairstyle now.”
“You should,” Addison said, giving her a look, “you showed me how to do it.”
“Yeah, I guess I did,” Bethany said, laughing.
“Don’t worry,” Addison said, smiling warmly at her, “I like it, too.”
The theater went dark, and the previews started. Addison felt the first tingle of excitement. She had been looking forward to seeing this movie ever since she first saw the trailer on TV. She had read the book and loved it, and the movie seemed like it was a faithful adaptation. She had talked about it so much that she finally got Bethany interested in seeing it. That was back before the notes started appearing in her locker.
The movie started, and Addison found herself drawn into the plot of the movie the same way the book had drawn her in. She almost forgot about the popcorn in her lap, her eyes glued to the screen. It wasn’t until Bethany’s arm slipped around her shoulder that she managed to look away. In the back splash of light from the screen, she could see the girl grinning at her. Laughing, Addison moved against the girl, cuddling as best she could with the chair arms between them.
Ninety minutes flew by, and the credits started rolling. The movie was all she had hoped it would be, close enough to the book that she was nearly buzzing with excitement. Even Bethany seemed to have enjoyed the movie, and they talked about it nonstop as they exited the theater.
Once they cleared the crowd, Bethany took her hand, and they headed to the food court for something to eat. Seeing the Baskin Robbins, they decided to skip dinner and go straight to desert. They ordered a couple of Oreo milkshakes. They were so thick that Addison had to use a spoon to eat it, just the way she liked them.
Bethany was watching her eat, amused. Blushing, Addison asked, “What?”
“Nothing,” Bethany said, laughing. The girl always made fun of her when she had an Oreo milkshake because she ate with such gusto, such obvious joy on her face. Grinning, the girl said, “I’m a little jealous. You never smile like that at me.”
“Well, Oreo shakes were my first love. We go way back,” Addison said, putting a spoonful of delicious coldness into her mouth and sighing happily. She licked the little plastic spoon clean.
“Now I’m jealous of a spoon,” Bethany said, with a playful smile.
Addison snorted, then started laughing at the innuendo. Trailing off, she gave the girl a look and said, “Maybe I can help you with that tonight.”
The look wasn’t lost on Bethany, and a slow smile spread on the girl’s face. That smile made Addison’s heart race, and suddenly she needed the ice cream to cool off. Meeting the girl’s eyes, she wanted to kiss her so bad. She was painfully aware of all the people in the food court, her paranoia making her think they were watching her, maybe judging her but she decided she didn’t care.
Leaning across the table, she invited the girl with her eyes, with the eyetooth caught on her lower lip. She didn’t know if Bethany would do it, if she’d kiss Addison in front of all of these people. She wouldn’t be upset if the girl didn’t. It would probably be best if she didn’t. Holding hands was one thing, easily mistaken for two friends being goofy but a kiss…
Bethany didn’t even hesitate, grinning as she leaned in to kiss her. It wasn’t a shy brush of the lips but a sweet, lingering kiss. Addison forgot to care about the other patrons, lost in the sugary caress of Bethany’s tongue. Her eyes closed and the mall receded until it was just Bethany and her in their little bubble.
Then the bubble was rudely burst when someone gasped, “Holy shit!”
Opening her eyes, Addison saw her friend Tara a few feet away from the table staring at them in wide-eyed, slack-jawed surprise. All the blood rushed from Addison’s extremities to gather in her face as she realized the girl had seen Bethany and her kissing. She froze like a deer in the headlights of an oncoming car, still leaning across the table as she gaped at her friend.
Finally, she collapsed back into her seat, her whole body hot and jittery with adrenaline. Being caught by her friend had triggered her fight or flight response, and she was thinking about employing the latter. Unfortunately, she seemed glued to her spot.
Tara came over to the table, sat down. Looking from Bethany to Addison, she asked, “So, what’s new?”
Snorting, Bethany laughed, “Um, not much. You?”
“Oh, just doing a little shopping. There is a kick ass music store here,” Tara said, smiling at Bethany.
“Buy anything?” Addison asked, glancing at Bethany.
“Nah, but I was tinkering around on a sweet Fender Stratocaster until the clerk kicked me out of the store,” Tara said, shaking her head, “dude was a total tool.”
“Sucks,” Addison said, amused. Tara was a great guitar player, talked like a stoner even though she has never done drugs, and was one of the smartest people she knew. Addison used to think the stoner thing was an act, but it was just how the girl talked. It was just one of those quirky things she loved about the girl.
“Ah, I was loitering, so I had it coming,” she said, brushing it aside, “so, how long have you two been making out?”
Ah, there it is, Addison thought, with an inward cringe.
“Not long,” Bethany said, getting into the groove of the conversation. Talking to Tara was sort of like being in the ocean; you could fight the waves and wear yourself out, or you could go with the ebb and flow.
“So are you two like… a thing?”
Bethany glanced at Addison, and she nodded. Smiling at her, Bethany said, “Yeah, we are a thing.”
“Good,” Tara said, laughing, “I thought I had been imagining things.”
“Imagining things?” Addison asked, raising her eyebrows.
“I caught you two looking at each other the other day, and I thought, huh…” Tara said, nodding.
Addison looked at her expectantly, then laughed when she realized there wasn’t anything more coming. She glanced at Bethany and saw the girl grinning.
“See, there,” Tara said, pointing at them, “the look! You are looking at each other like a fat kid looks at a Twinky.”
“Wow,” Addison said, laughing, “you should put that in a song.”
“The Ballad of Bethany and Addie,” Tara said, grinning. Her eyes narrowed, and she looked at Addison, asked, “Is it a love song?”
Bethany took Addison’s hand, and Addison smiled at her. Turning back to her friend, she nodded. Tara looked down at their interlocked fingers. She was smiling brightly when she looked back up and met Addison’s eyes, again. That smile was a weight off Addison’s chest. It had been hard to breathe ever since the girl had caught them kissing and she took her first deep breath since the girl sat down. At least one of their friends had accepted them as a couple, and it gave her hope that the rest would do the same.
Tara nodded and stood up, said, “I’ll let you two get back to your ice cream and making out.”
She turned to leave, and Addison said, “Wait. Um, could you-”
“I’m not going to tell anyone,” Tara said, turning back and smiling reassuringly at her.
“Thanks, Tara,” Bethany said.
“See you two at school on Monday,” Tara said, walking away.
Bethany glanced at Addison and raised her eyebrows. Laughing, Addison rubbed the back of her neck nervously and shook her head. She gave Bethany’s hand a squeeze, then went back to eating her ice cream.
“What are the odds of Tara being here?” Bethany asked.
“Astronomical,” Addison said, laughing, “but of all of our friends, I’m glad it was her.”
“Yeah,” Bethany said, smiling, “good old Tara. She hardly batted an eyelash.”
“Not a lot rattles her,” she said.
“No,” Bethany said, laughing. When she sobered up, she asked, “Are you okay? I mean, with her knowing?”
Taking a deep breath, Addison said, “It was bound to happen, eventually. We need to talk about what we are going to do.”
Bethany nodded, spooning some ice cream into her mouth.
——————————
It was nine-fifty-five, and Addison and Bethany were sitting on the bench outside the mall, waiting for Bethany’s mother to pull up. They kept glancing at each other, smiling. The stars were out and unseasonably warm breeze stirred the leaves of the trees planted on either side of he entrance. When Bethany had offered her hand, Addison had smiled and taken it.
“Crazy night,” Bethany said, laughing.
“Our first date,” Addison said, smiling, “first real kiss in public.”
“Our first time being caught,” Bethany added, shaking her head.
“Our first friend knowing we are a couple,” Addison said, laughing.
“Like I said,” Bethany said, squeezing her hand, “a crazy night.”
“A good one, though.”
“A very good one,” Bethany agreed.
“It’s not over, either,” she said, looking at the girl and winking.
“I was hoping you’d say that,” Bethany said, grinning.
They saw a car approaching and let go of each others hand. Bethany’s mother pulled to the curb, and they filed into the car, Bethany in the front seat and Addison in the back.
As Bethany talked with her mother about the movie and their night at the mall, Addison dug her phone out of her purse. She saw she had two text messages; the first from her mother, just checking in and the second from Tara. Smiling, she opened the message and read: Are you staying the night with Bethany?
Addison responded: Yeah. Tonight and tomorrow night.
There was a pause, and then her phone buzzed alerting her that she had a text message. It read: Uh oh.
Snorting in surprise, Addison blushed. She thought about what she wanted to say, then grinned as she typed: Uh oh, indeed.
Tara came back with: LOL Just don’t get caught. Won’t be any more ‘sleepovers’ if you do.
The quotation marks around the word sleepovers made her laugh, and her cheeks burned even hotter as she realized her friend had a pretty good idea what was going to happen tonight. Then blinking a couple of times, she thought of something. Tara was cool enough with Bethany and her being lesbians and a couple to boot that she was making jokes at her expense.
When she had first come to the conclusion that she was a lesbian, the thought of anyone finding out had terrified her. Being different could be difficult when you were in middle school. Human beings, in general, weren’t very accepting of things they didn’t understand, things that ran contrary to their own views or beliefs. That was even more true of kids. Age tempered many biases, but the young hadn’t developed that filter, yet. Their words and their reactions could be painful, bordering on vicious.
Tara had given her hope for acceptance, the one thing all kids craved more than anything. Addison wanted to text the girl that, but was too embarrassed to do it. Instead, she typed: Yeah. We wouldn’t want that.
Her phone buzzed again, and she saw: Maybe Ethan and I can double date with you sometime.
Laughing, Addison typed: If he ever gets around to asking you out.
Tara sent back: He will… Probably.
Addison thought the girl was probably right. Ethan liked Tara and Tara liked Ethan, but neither one of them seemed willing to ask the other and make it official. Sometimes, Addison wanted just to take their hands and do it for them.
She typed: He better hurry. The Valentine’s Day dance is coming up next month.
When Tara texted her back, she could feel the girl’s frustration: I know!!
Feeling bad for her friend, she responded: He’ll ask.
What she didn’t add to the message but was thinking, even if I have to drag him by his hair to do it.
There was a bit of a pause, then: Do you think you and Bethany will go together?
The question kind of caught her off guard and she blinked dumbly at the screen. The thought hadn’t even crossed her mind, going to the dance. No one had asked her and even if they had, she wasn’t sure if she’d have gone. Maybe just to keep up the ruse but that was the only reason.
Now the thought was in her head, and she couldn’t help but wonder what Bethany would look like all dressed up. She closed her eyes and could see them slow dancing, her head on Bethany’s shoulder. They would twirl and twirl and…
The buzzing of her phone brought her back from her daydream, and she looked at the display: Earth to Addie.
Laughing, she typed: Sorry. I was thinking about Bethany in a dress. I wish we could go together.
Tara came back with: So go. Should I tell my Mom you two will need a ride?
Addison read the message and sighed. She locked her phone without responding, put it back in her purse. Staring out the window, she wished it were that simple.
———————————-
“You seem distracted.”
Addison shook her head to clear her thoughts and smiled at Bethany. They were back in the basement, in Bethany’s room, talking about the trip to the mall. Addison had only been half invested in the conversation, her mind stuck on the damn Valentine’s Day dance. Tara had put the stubborn thought in her brain, and now it was just rattling around, wrecking her concentration. Now, Bethany had noticed, and she wondered if she should tell the girl about her conversation with Tara.
She smiled and said, “Sorry. Just can’t wait for your parents to go to sleep.”
It wasn’t precisely a lie, so she didn’t feel too bad about not telling Bethany the truth. She really was anxious for them to go to bed so she could get Bethany out of her clothes. Ever since they got home, the tension had been building up between them, made worse by the little looks they kept giving each other, the slight curling the lips in a playful smile.
Addison thought if she didn’t do something about her growing desire soon, she might explode with need.
Grinning, Bethany sprang off the bed and bounded up the stairs. Opening the door a crack, she gave Addison a thumbs up, then disappeared. Only a couple minutes passed but they seemed to take forever, and then the girl came back, She didn’t say anything, just came to Addison, bore her to her back and kissed her deeply. Addison could feel the girl’s need, her excitement in the kiss and it matched her own. The kiss left her feeling dizzy and warm all over.
Finally pulling back a little, Bethany said, “God, I’ve wanted to do that for hours!”
Her voice husky, Addison said, “I take it your parents are asleep.”
“You can hear them snoring through the door,” Bethany said, grinning, “Mom complains about Dad’s snoring but I think she’s the louder of the two. He just knows better than to say anything.”
Laughing, Addison asked, “Do you think that will be us some day?”
“I don’t snore,” Bethany said.
“Of course, you don’t,” Addison said, in a way that meant the exact opposite of her words.
Bethany laughed and kissed her. It lingered, deepened as the pent-up desire finally boiled over between the two girls. Addison felt her body responding to the kiss, to the pleasant weight of Bethany laying atop her. Her hands roamed incessantly on the girl’s back, down to cup her buttocks through the sleep shorts she wore. Her excitement only grew as she explored Bethany’s taut body.
She scooted further back onto the bed and Bethany came with her, crawling onto the mattress. On her hands and knees, Bethany smiled down at Addison. That smile made her feel warm all over, and she returned it with a playful one of her own. When Bethany leaned in for a kiss, she kissed the girl back passionately
Bethany’s hand found her breast through the t-shirt she wore, and she groaned as her stiffened nipple drug across her palm, Her back arched off the bed as the girl’s fingers teased the nub, making it ache sweetly. Bethany grinned as she lowered her mouth to it, gently nibbling it with her teeth. Addison groaned, her body beginning to move on its own at the intense sensation.
When Bethany hooked her fingers in the bottom of her shirt, she half sat up so the girl could pull it off. She smiled as Bethany flung the shirt over her shoulder and it landed on the back of the couch some seven feet away. She hadn’t bothered with a bra when getting ready for bed and she shivered at Bethany’s hot gaze on her bare breasts. Her heart skipped a beat or two at the smile that tugged at the corners of Bethany’s mouth as she looked at her.
Bethany made her feel so beautiful when the girl looked at her like that.
Her tongue was hot and wet when it found Addison’s nipple, and she groaned. Bethany teased first one, then the other until she didn’t think she could take any more. Her body was writhing under the girl’s attention, and her sighs and moans filled the room.
Addison’s breathing got a little funny as Bethany moved lower, leaving a trail of moist kisses down her taut stomach. The girl took her time, either enjoying herself too much to rush or wanting to let the anticipation build in Addison until she couldn’t stand it.
Whatever her intentions, Addison was all but trembling with need by the time Bethany hooked her fingers in the shorts Addison wore. She lifted her backside off the bed so her girlfriend could tug them, along with her panties down, then off. These were tossed over her shoulder like her shirt and ended up on the floor in front of her sofa.
The girl’s eyes fell on the soft folds of Addison’s girlhood and Addison’s breath caught in her throat as she lowered her mouth toward it. She almost groaned in frustration as Bethany’s lips brushed against the baby fine hairs on the inside of her thigh, instead. The smile on the girl’s face told her Bethany knew what she was doing to her, that the suspense was killing her. She made Addison wait, kissing her way down one leg, then up the other.
When Bethany finally pressed her lips against Addison’s tender bud, she was a horny mess. The first caress of her tongue sent shivers of pleasure through her young body, and she moaned thickly. She was tense, half expecting the girl to tease her some more, but Bethany didn’t. With her tongue and lips, she drew moan after moan from Addison.
Addison lost control of her body, her hips undulating against Bethany’s mouth. She dug her fingers into the sheets, holding on for dear life. Her eyes wide, she stared at her girlfriend, wondering how the girl had gotten so much better at this. It hadn’t been like this that first time.
Feeling Addison’s eyes on her, Bethany looked up. She must have read the question in them because she paused and grinned at her, said, “You like this?”
“Oh God, yeah,” Addison laughed.
“I did some ‘research’ of my own,” the girl said, using her thumb to caress Addison’s bud, “learned a few new things.”
The girl’s mouth returned to Addison’s girlhood, and she moaned thickly. Closing her eyes and basking in the lovely sensations washing through her, she thought, God bless her research.
Already, she felt the first stirrings of an orgasm deep inside. Bethany sensed it, too, her efforts doubling. She brought Addison right to the brink of bliss, then toppled her over the edge. With a sharp cry that escaped her before she could bite it back, Addison came hard, her body exploding with pleasure. Like the orgasm had short-circuited her brain, her body jerked erratically, gracelessly. Finally, the tension fled her body, and she collapsed like a wet rag.
“Holy shit,” she said, out of breath.
Laughing, Bethany crawled up to give her a quick kiss.
Addison hooked her fingers in the girl’s shirt, and Bethany helped her remove it. Taking a page from her girlfriend’s book, Addison flung it wide of the bed. It landed near the stairs, well out of reach. With a naughty shiver working up her spin, she glanced at the stairs leading to the kitchen. If Bethany’s parents came to check on them now, they were so busted.
Bethany slipped out of her shorts and panties, tossing them in the opposite direction. Naked, she stretched out on her back. Addison got to her knees, looking down at the girl’s supine body. She drank her in, loving ever inch of her. Bethany looked so stunning laying there, her young body a temptation Addison couldn’t resist. Her hands found the girl’s skin fascinating, couldn’t get enough of it. Soft and smooth and warm, it begged to be touched, caressed.
Her touch had Bethany sighing and her body swaying. Addison heard her breathing change and knew Bethany was as turned on as Addison was. When she finally moved between the girl spread thighs, Bethany was ready for her. Lowering her face to the girl’s sex, she breathed deep the musky scent of Bethany’s excitement before letting her tongue caress her bud. The taste of the girl, the sensual flex of her hips, the sounds of enjoyment dripping from the girl’s slack mouth… She lost herself in all the wonderful sensory inputs swirling around her.
She tried to mimic the things the girl had done to her and was rewarded with wordless cries of enjoyment. Bethany’s body writhed against her mouth, and the girl’s hand slipped behind her head to hold her to her girlhood. Her fingers knotted in Addison’s hair as teased the girl’s bud, gently sucking on its hood.
Rolling her eyes up, she saw Bethany’s face pinched in pleasure, her eyes closed. The look of pure enjoyment made Addison smile, and she returned her attention to what she was doing. She wanted to make the girl feel as good as Bethany had made her feel. She wanted to make her toes curl and her back arch until she lost herself to an earth shaking orgasm.
“Oh God, that feels so good,” Bethany said, around a moan.
Her hips were gyrating so hard, Addison was having problems keeping her mouth to the girl’s body. It didn’t matter, though, because she heard the change in the girl’s cries, urgency creeping into them. She kept going, building the tension in the girl’s body until she locked up and cried out in ecstasy. She shook herself loose, collapsing to the bed.
Addison stretched out next Bethany, and the girl moved against her, pressing against her flank. They stayed like that a while, just enjoying the afterglow.
Eventually, Addison said, “We should probably get dressed.”
“Yeah,” Bethany said, pulling the covers over them, instead.
“This is a bad idea,” she said, smiling at the girl.
“Yeah,” Bethany agreed, rolling over to turn off her bedside lamp, before molding against Addison once more.
“Are we going to bed, then?”
“Not just yet,” Bethany said, kissing her, “I love you.”
“I love you, too,” Addison said, smiling at her in the gloom.

In the dark, Addison waited for sleep to come for her. Next to her, Bethany’s breathing slowed, and the girl began to snore softly. She had to smile, and she snuggled against the girl, put an arm around her. Bethany stirred but didn’t wake up. Addison felt herself drifting, drifting… Then she slipped into sleep and dreamed of cheesy decorations around the gymnasium and music she really didn’t like and dancing in Bethany’s arms. She smiled fondly in her sleep.
Oh wow! That dance will be so much fun! What movie did they watch? I´m so happy for them!
Ebo you’ve out done the previous stories in this set so far. I totally agree a name change was needed as you did end the secret admirer when you showed Bethany was the admirer. I’m truly looking forward to the follow up on this story and that dance sounds so…
The Dance 1
Ebo, you are the best! I read all your stories, and they are always intriguing. I specially like the dialogues, which come so natural. I wonder why there are no younger girls among your characters (like a little sister a bit too nosy…). I too am curious about the movie watched by A. & B.
Thanks to Leo, Sarah-Sophie and Fur. It was nice visiting Addison and Bethany, again. As for the movie, I tried to find a current movie that was based on a book and would appeal to a thirteen-year-old girl and failed miserably. So, I sort of fudge my way through the scene. Or, maybe I just wanted to let the reader fill in the movie, whatever they wanted to imagine the girls seeing… Yeah, it’s definitely that one. 😉
As for kid sisters… It’s a thought. I’ve had some older sisters and a bunch of step-sisters, so maybe a younger sister is overdue.
Man, I’d be so sad if you hadn’t come around at about the time ASSTR went down in flames. Your writing started out pretty good, and has gotten better since. Your characters really love each other, and that makes a huge difference. I also like your quirky minor characters like Tara and Fucker.
Great stuff. =)

This story is playing directly to the hopeless romantic in me. Thank you Ebo for another enjoyable read and for continuing with the blossoming love story of these two charming young ladies.
An interesting new chapter in Addie and Bethany’s relationship. It will be fun to see how it progresses, and how they manage the challenges, like possibly telling their friends about it and such. Tara seemed to take it in stride, at least. Will they go to the dance together? I would guess yes, since it’s the name of the story!
A small suggestion on the writing, if I may: you should keep an eye on how much you use the term “the girl”. I know well from my own writing that it can be difficult to describe what’s going on without repeating the character names over and over, and so Bethany (in this instance) often becomes “the girl” for variety’s sake, and that’s fair enough. But that can also be overused. If you’re repeating “the girl” three or four times in a paragraph (as you’ve done multiple times here, and in some other stories as well), it becomes a lot more conspicuous and distracting than just repeating the character’s name. You should consider switching it up a bit more. “The girl” is fine here and there, but also “her girlfriend” or “her lover” if appropriate in the story, or a more general “her partner,” stuff like that. Recently, I’ve realized I’ve been overdoing that sort of thing, too, and that simply using a character’s name is often less noticeable than using some replacement. Don’t have the name twice in one sentence or in close proximity, of course, but otherwise, names are pretty much invisible and people won’t even notice.
Anyway, I hope that’s helpful, and as always, I look forward to reading the next chapter. Oh, and happy new year!
